Impressive screw art from Andrew Myers

One of the representatives of new art when classic approaches are implemented via modern techniques or materials has alredy been featured on the pages of my blog - a really nice pin art by Ran Hwang (do not confuse it with pin up though) But Andrew Myers, IMHO, has made it a huge step forward with his screw art. Portraits he creates are impressive, realistic, thoughtful and are best viewed from distance (just the way actual oil paintings are) That's really a lot of work and patience invested into every portrait...So they definitely deserve being admired... Enjoy! Or get a screw driver and try to make one at home ;)

Stunning foodscapes by Carl Warner

Food has been a part of art for ages... From primitive engravings, through Flemish still life paintings and up to stock images and print ads... From merely being depicted, food has finally oozed into art and became a part of it... Let's just mention food clothes by Ted Sabarese as one of the vivid examples... Carl Warner has gone way further and created a new direction in photography - foodscapes...  What he makes is just awesome... He not just takes stunning shots and creates these trullu out of this world landscape out of food only... One should have a really creative vision to put all those vegies, fruits and what not into a mindblowing landscape...

and a nice video which reveals the secrets of the making of..

A perfect match by Pei-San Ng. An unusual installation made of matches

When one first sees installation of this kind, the first idea that comes to mind is usually - wow, how do they make  such complex/huge/great things out of such tiny elements.
Well, when I read that Pei-San Ng holds a BA in Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology, besides her degree in Interior design, all questions were gone instantly... A really great piece of modern art... Nothing revolutionary, yet something that grabs and keeps your attention...and something which is commercially viable...
Love the idea, love the implementation... great job!

and these things are for real... and yes, they burn...

Street names we pass by, walk on the traffic lights, signs, words on tickets, checks, etc But words made by Alexander Shields are really hard not to be noticed.. Provided you are in one of the abandonded places of London where these great installations have been made...

Sunflower seeds carpet by Ai Weiwei. Have a look to find the unbelievable truth...

And a small promised bonus.... Well, I know that modern aka contemporary art sometimes seems odd and weird but when it's explained right then it may seem really cool... The very thing is with the huge sunflower seeds carpet by Ai Weiwei Don't know whether what I think was on his mind, but for me personally the message of his installation is What You See Is Not What You See...
Now imagine a huge room filled with one hundred million (!) sunflower seeds... Impressive, yeah? That's what you see... Now... take a deep breath... EACH seed is actually a life-size sculpture hand-crafted in porcelain and painted by the artists... That's not what you see...
If I ever had doubts as for cheap labor force in China, now I have none... yet, it's a really impressive installation...

Incredible life size cardboard sculptures by Chris Gilmour

You thought that paper roll and 3D paper sculptures were the most incredible things you could imagine to be made out of paper? Have a look what I found! Awesome life-size (!) sculptures and installations made of recycled cardboard and glue by British designer Chris Gilmour.  What impressed me personally is how detailed they are... I even picked one of the zoomed images to show you...
